Florida Rapper Julio Foolio Fatally Shot in Tampa Hotel; Police Seek Public Help in Investigation

Julio Foolio, a rapper from Florida, was shot and killed in a Tampa hotel parking lot early on Sunday morning.

His lawyer, Lewis Fusco, told CBS News affiliate WTSP-TV in Tampa that Julio Foolio had died.

At about 4:40 a.m., Tampa police responded to a shooting at the Holiday Inn Tampa North. According to Tampa Police spokesperson Jonee Lewis at a news conference, gunfire hit two cars and injured four people.

One of the victims, believed to be Charles Jones, 26, is awaiting confirmation of his identity by the medical examiner, police said. According to WTSP, Jones is Julio Foolio's legal name.

Three more people were wounded in the shooting.

Fusco told WTSP that Foolio came to Tampa to celebrate his birthday at an Airbnb but had to leave because there were too many people there. Later, he went to the Holiday Inn, where Fusco said he was ambushed.

Foolio, who has over 1 million followers on Instagram, posted and promoted on his page that he was in Tampa for his birthday.

Lewis mentioned that hotel guests were not evacuated, but police were there to help them if needed.

Police are asking the public to share any videos or information they have to help with the investigation.

"If you saw something or heard something, even the smallest detail can help us piece together what happened this morning," Lewis said.

You can reach the Tampa Police Department at (813) 231-6130.
