Fire at McLaren's F1 Hospitality Unit, Team Evacuated Safely

A fire broke out this morning at McLaren's F1 hospitality unit at the Spanish Grand Prix, but everyone got out safely.

Fire engines rushed through the paddock in Barcelona at noon after a fire was reported above the kitchen in McLaren's hospitality unit.

Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, along with staff and guests, were quickly evacuated as smoke came from the building.

The fire was quickly put out, with Pirelli’s head of F1, Mario Isola, who is also a part-time paramedic, rushing to the scene with fire extinguishers.

After the incident, McLaren issued a brief statement: "This morning we evacuated our Team Hub paddock hospitality unit following a fire alert. The team has been safely evacuated while the local fire brigade handles the issue."

The fire did not affect McLaren's preparations for the final practice session, as all car equipment was kept in the garage or motorhome.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown was seen outside the two-level suite as final practice began as scheduled.

Norris was fastest in the first practice session on Friday and is confident he can challenge Max Verstappen for pole position in Saturday's qualifying.
