Tracy-Ann Oberman Returns to EastEnders After Nearly 20 Years

Tracy-Ann Oberman is coming back to EastEnders as Chrissie Watts, nearly 20 years later.

Chrissie Watts was last on EastEnders in December 2005, when she was sent to prison for killing her husband, "Dirty Den" Watts, played by the late Leslie Grantham.

During her time on Albert Square, Chrissie angered many people, especially Sharon, Den's adopted daughter, played by long-time cast member Letita Dean.

Since her appearance on the soap opera, Tracy-Ann Oberman has been in TV shows like Doctor Who and After Life, and she played Auntie Val in Friday Night Dinner.

Oberman is also skilled in theatre acting and recently played Shylock in a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's play The Merchant of Venice, titled 1936, which toured nationally.

The actress has begun filming for her return to EastEnders, but viewers won't see the scenes until autumn.

Oberman eagerly accepted the opportunity to come back to Albert Square.

"Playing Chrissie Watts was a great experience, portraying both a victim and a villain," she said.

"She's a beloved character among fans, so when executive producer Chris Clenshaw invited me to return and explore what she's been up to in the last 19 years, I eagerly accepted. The scripts are excellent, and I hope viewers will enjoy seeing her as much as I'm enjoying portraying her again."

EastEnders’ executive producer Chris Clenshaw hinted that Chrissie Watts brings excitement wherever she goes, though he didn't reveal specific plot details.

"Despite not appearing on screen for nearly 20 years, Chrissie remains a significant part of EastEnders’ history due to her role in the murder of Walford's notorious villain, Dirty Den, who is also Sharon's beloved father. As for her return, details are being kept under wraps for now."
