Xbox Resolves Major Outage After Hours of Disrupted Services; Cause Still Unknown

Xbox has fixed a major outage that had stopped players from connecting to Xbox Live, playing online games, downloading games, or using other services for several hours. In a post on X, Xbox announced, "Users should no longer be experiencing problems signing in to Xbox Live and services. Thank you for your patience, game on!"

Problems with Xbox Live appeared to begin around 2 PM ET, as Downdetector reports started increasing around that time. By 3 PM ET, Xbox acknowledged that it was "aware that some users have been disconnected from Xbox Live" and began investigating the issue.

During this time, Xbox's status page reported a major outage affecting account and profile services. The notice stated, "You may not be able to sign in to your Xbox profile, may get disconnected while signed in, or experience other related issues. Features requiring sign-in, like most games, apps, and social activities, won't be available."

At about 4:10 PM ET, Xbox mentioned that its investigation was "taking longer than expected," and the issue wasn't resolved until around 9 PM ET. The cause of the hours-long outage remains unclear. The Verge contacted Microsoft for more information but did not receive an immediate response.
